Everything You Need to Know about Food Preservation and Storage
That’s What We’re hoping to teach you at the Emergency Preparedness and Self-Reliance Fair from 9-5 on April 20th at 105 Fishburn Drive!
But we can’t do it without YOUR help!!!
Please contact: Sherry Christensen if you can help us out in any of these areas:
Demos and/or Displays:
- How to seal food in #10 cans (we have the sealer & cans)
- How to vacuum pack foods (we have one vacuum packer)
- How to make bread
- How to make egg noodles and dumplings
- Where to store food (bring examples, tri-fold displays, pictures, etc.)
Preparing Food Samples: before proceeding with any of these, be sure to contact Sherry to confirm who is making what MUST be home-made; do not bring something bought from a store - Breads of all kinds: MUST BE 5”x 2½” loaves, placed in clear plastic bags w/twist-ties (please label: name, phone #, type of bread, recipe) Bring all breads to Sherry between 9am and 9pm on April 18 or 19. Breads may be pre-made and frozen before bringing to Sherry.)
- Bread spreads: (label: name, phone, type of spread, recipe)
- Salad: we have the recipe if you can provide the ingredients & make it 1 or 2 days before the fair.
- Dried Fruits, Veggies, Fruit-Leather: cut into bite-sized pieces (label: name, phone #, type of, recipe)
I also need some signs and/or posters made – to identify “booths” – to direct the flow of people traffic
Be prepared to take pictures of posters, displays, and demos!
