Inflation
The close of 2021 brought with it a rise in inflation. As prices increase It may not seem much when the cost of beans increases by 25 cents a can. But over time small increases will make a huge impact on our lifestyle. I remember when I took my Economics class back in the ’90s our professor wanted to show us how inflation impacts our buying power. He used what he called Rule 72. You take 72 and divide it by the current inflation rate and that gives you “N” in years.
72 / Inflation Rate = N (Years)
The resulting number, N, tells you how many years it will take to cut your purchasing power in half.
As of December 2021, the current inflation rate was 7%. 72 divided by 7 equals 10 years. In other words, if you bought two cans of beans in December for $3.00, in 10 years you will only be able to purchase 1-can for $3.00.
December 2020, the inflation rate was 1.4%. 72 divided by 1.4 equals 51 years. Again, if you bought two cans of beans in December 2020 for $3.00, in 51 years you will only be able to purchase 1-can for $3.00.
At the beginning of 2022, we saw how inflation affected the prices at the Logan Home Storage Center (LHSC). The LHSC has 21commodities, of these 21, 5 had price decreases, while 16 had price increases.
Our hope is that as you recognize how inflation is affecting your buying power you will plan your finances to make the best use of them.

Current restrictions at the Logan Home Storage Center
Because of COVID-19 virus and its various strain the following restrictions for patrons are now recommended. A mask is recommended if you have not been vaccinated when you enter the LHSC. We request that patrons stay in the lobby area until one of the service missionaries greets them and takes their order. The service missionary will then go and fill the order and return to the cash register area. At that time the missionary will come and get the patron, review the order with them, and the patron will pay for their items. When the transaction is complete the missionary will assist the patron by taking their order out to their vehicle.
Please note that the LHSC does not accept cash or checks. They only accept credit or debit cards to pay for a patron’s order and at this time. We do not accept American Express Cards.
